Dr. Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi

Prof. Dr. Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi has been a full professor of Law and Governance at the Law Faculty of the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) since 2010. Since 2019 she is the Academic Director of the Centre of Expertise ‘Rethinking Public Interests in Private Relationship’ (REPP), funded by the Dutch Government in the framework of the Law Sector Plan.
She holds a PhD degree from the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg (Germany) with the highest distinction (summa cum laude). Before joining the Groningen Law Faculty, she was a senior lecturer at the University of Bremen (Germany), and a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Oxford (UK).
She published more than 100 academic works, among which three books with Cambridge University Press, a book with Oxford University Press, and chapters included in three volumes published by Hart Publishing. She presented her work at more than 100 academic events in many different countries, including a keynote speech at The World Society of Mixed Jurisdiction Jurists: Fifth World Congress 2023.
Since 2014 she is the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Comparative Law and Governance. Between 2014 and 2024 she was the Chair of the ‘Contract’ group within the long-term project ‘The Common Core of European Private Law’, of which in 2025 she became a General Editor.
She has been involved in four EU-funded projects, including “Justice, Fundamental Rights and Artificial Intelligence” (JuLIA, 2023-2026, https://www.julia-project.eu/).
