About FIDMAEuropean Researcher Network on Fairness in Digital Markets and Artificial Intelligence (FIDMA)

Founded in 2025, FIDMA strives to be an interdisciplinary, inclusive and intellectually curious network for mainly European-based researchers from mainly legal and economic disciplines. The network concentrates on legal and economic aspects of digital and artificial markets and strives to make sense of the string of recent regulatory landscape and offer insights and analysis, focusing on the various legal challenges but also opportunities presented by the emergence of digital economy.

The first conference which also acted as the founding event of the network was held on February 7th 2025 with keynote-speakers Alexander Cappelen, Kalpana Tyagi, Fabiana di Porto and Björn Lundqvist, as well as representatives from Swedish and Italian competition authorities and a wide range of senior and emerging European scholars.

Our second annual conference brought together scholars and practitioners to explore fairness in digital markets and artificial intelligence from legal, economic, and policy perspectives. The conference featured keynote contributions from Prof. Dr. Jörgen Hettne, Judge at the General Court of the European Union, Prof. Dr. Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell, President of the European Law Institute and Full Professor of Commercial Law at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and Prof. Dr. Mateja Durovic, Full Professor of Law and Technology and co-director of the Centre for Technology, Ethics, Law and Society at King’s College London. Their presentations framed the discussion around digital fairness, regulation, and the evolving AI landscape.

FIDMA is also part of a research project supported and funded by the Swedish Competition Authority for the period 2025–2028, underscoring the network’s connection to ongoing research on competition, markets, and regulatory development.
