Roberto Cisotta is Associate Professor of EU Law at Sapienza University of Rome (Rome 1) and he works also as EU Law Expert at the Research Service of the Italian Constitutional Court. Before joining Sapienza University in 2021, he taught International and EU Law in various Italian Universities and he was Professeur invité at Panthéon- Assas University in Paris (Paris 2) in 2023 and Professor invitado at the Universidad de La Habana (Cuba) in 2015. He has published extensively on various issues in International and EU Law and he is currently engaged in different research projects. His interests cover different areas of EU law, spanning from institutional issues to EMU law and internal market, including competition law.
Roberto Cisotta was awarded a scholarship in the framework of the European Central Bank Legal Research Programme in 2015 for a project on ‘Financial Stability and the Reconstruction of the EU Legal Order’. He was awarded the ‘Pietro Costa’ Prize, from Camera Europea di Giustizia (European Chamber of Justice), Lawyers’ Association, Naples (Italy) for an essay on the topic: ‘The Network of National and International Judges – Effects on the Independence of the Italian and Western Countries’ Judiciary’. His PhD thesis was awarded the Italian Society for International Law (ISIL-SIDI) ‘Riccardo Monaco’ Prize for the best Ph.D. thesis in EU Law defended in 2009.
Amongst other professional experiences, Roberto Cisotta served as a Diplomat at the Law Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation from 2016 to 2020 and as a Legal Secretary at the General Court of the EU between 2011 and 2012.
