Dr Aysem Diker Vanberg is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Goldsmiths, University of London, with recognised expertise in competition law, data protection, digital markets, and online platforms. Her work has been widely cited by academics and legal practitioners, including Facebook’s Vice President Erin Egan in the policy paper Chartering a Way Forward: Data Portability and Privacy.
Before joining Goldsmiths, Dr Diker Vanberg held academic positions at the University of Greenwich, Anglia Ruskin University, and the University of Essex. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Essex, an LLM from the University of Bremen, and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Ankara. She is also a qualified Turkish lawyer and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Prior to her academic career, she worked as lead in-house counsel for multinational corporations such as MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG and Cimpor Cimentos de Portugal. Her professional experience informs her research at the intersection of law and technology, with a focus on fundamental rights in the age of AI and machine learning.
Dr Vanberg has contributed to UK government consultations on data portability and was cited in the landmark DCMS report Data Mobility: The Personal Data Portability Growth Opportunity for the UK Economy. Dr Diker Vanberg is currently working on a monograph exploring the application of European competition law to generative artificial intelligence.
