Xinyu Lyu is a PhD Researcher at the University of Edinburgh School of Law and a qualified lawyer in China.
Her research focuses on competition law and intellectual property, with particular emphasis on digital markets and platform-based ecosystems. She examines how competition and IP frameworks interact in structuring market power, participation, and governance in data-driven environments.
Her work explores regulatory challenges arising from platform intermediation, self-preferencing, data control, and the evolving roles of users who simultaneously function as consumers, business participants, and sources of value creation. She is particularly interested in how these dynamics unsettle traditional legal categories and regulatory assumptions in competition and IP law.
In addition, her research engages with legal and regulatory issues surrounding digital and virtual characters, including questions of authorship, ownership, and control in platform-mediated creative markets. Through this lens, the regulatory responses of intellectual property and competition law to emerging forms of digital production, monetisation, and market organisation are explored.
